Communications support for energy startup competition conducted in 24 markets

InnoEnergy is a fund established by the European Institute of Technology and Innovation, which supports the entry of start-ups into international markets through knowledge, funding and networking. The main area of cooperation between the Client and Planet Partners was the international communication of three editions of the competition for cleantech start-ups: PowerUp!, and support of the company’s branding activities.

Challenge

The PowerUp! project was dedicated to start-ups from 24 CEE countries. The main organizer – InnoEnergy’s CEE headquarters based in Krakow – implemented it in cooperation with HUBs across the region. They had different backgrounds, marketing expertise and levels of involvement in promoting the project. The primary goal – to encourage start-ups to apply to the competition – could not be forgotten. In addition, the client was keen to build the image of InnoEnergy as a reliable business partner among representatives of large industry and corporations in the energy sector.

Analysis

Due to the many challenges of designing communications for 24 markets, we have set our sights on developing a communications program adaptable to each market, along with communication guidelines for 15 agencies in Central and Eastern Europe.

Both in the area of building the client’s expert image and communicating with start-ups, competition is high, and 2017-2019 is a real “rash” of various gas pedals, projects and competitions. Part of the strategy, therefore, was to communicate the international background and experience of InnoEnergy, which has already supported several hundred innovations.

Solution

Preparation of a special, extensive toolkit for HUBs (independent entities, representing the Competition Organizer in a given country, i.e. gas pedals, incubators, etc.) and foreign agencies, as well as completed FAQs, which they were able to use both when talking to journalists and when communicating with participants.

Media relations (business, start-up, technology, energy and industry media)

Conducting English-language communications on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)

Developing English-language content for the blog (success stories of start-ups)

Graphic consistency of all materials - we designed each of the graphic elements - from the website and social media graphics, to the presentations for Partners, to the graphic design of the PowerUp finals!

Increasing the number of entries to the competition by up to 100% every year

Deepening the discussion in more than a dozen of the most important business and opinion-forming titles in Poland (including Rzeczpospolita, Gazeta Wyborcza, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna and others)
